Member Benefits

Types of Membership

Fellow ($75): NCCPA certified or board eligible PA who is a fellow member of AAPA. Resides or works in New Mexico. Privilege of the floor, hold formal office, and vote.

Sustaining($75): PA eligible for fellow membership, who is not a fellow member of AAPA, or has chosen not to practice in the PA profession. Privilege of the floor.

Affiliate ($25): Ineligible for any of the above categories who wish to affiliate with NMAPA and is approved by the NMAPA Board of Directors. Includes PAs from another state who would like to support NMAPA. Privilege of the floor.

Associate ($30): Engaged in selling products or other services to PAs who does not qualify for other membership categories. Privilege of the floor.

Physician ($50): U.S. licensed physician who wishes to associate with NMAPA. Privilege of the floor.

PA Student ($20): Enrolled in an ARC-PA accredited program or an unaccredited program recognized by AAPA. Privilege of the floor.

Committees

Membership: Encourage and promote an increase in NMAPA membership.

Legislative: Monitor current legislation and policies effecting NMAPA, and coordinate proactive lobbying for improved quality and standards for practicing NM PAs.

CME: Coordinate the planning of CME conferences for NMAPA.

Professional/Public Relations: Publicize and promote activities of NMAPA among community

Communications: Produce official NMAPA newsletter, electronic communications, and other official publications.

NMAPA functions and Membership Benefits

  • Lobbies for PA legislation before the New Mexico state legislature. We were successful most recently in obtaining improved regulations for PAs in 2005.
  • Works closely with the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners (NMMB). 
  • Promotes the utilization of PAs in the work place by educating employers on the benefits of PAs in health care.
  • Keeps a close watch on reimbursement issues which affect PAs particularly with regard to medicaid and third-party insurers.
  • Produces an annual educational conference, “Fall Primary Care Update”, which is designed for PAs to provide updates on the latest primary care topics and create a forum for you to meet, socialize, and network with other New Mexico PAs. Members get a special discount to this conference. 
  • Produce a quarterly newsletter which goes to members only.
    Maintain and update a web site
    • List of current Board and Committee Members
    • Current and past newsletters.
    • Bulletin board for members to discuss anything, ask and answer questions and communicate with fellow members.
    • A large medical links page.
    • Multitude of links to other interesting and informative medical sites and utilities.
  • Established a scholarship fund for students of the UNM PA program.
  • Delegates to AAPA. In 2007, NM will have two delegates supoorted by NMAPA. In 2008, we will have three.
